Product Description
When ancient giants begin to reawaken in the British Isles, Hellboy is invited to join an ancient band of fellow monster hunters called the Wild Hunt and help bring them down. But an unexpected betrayal sends Hellboy after a quarry far more deadly: the Queen of Blood, first seen in 2007's best-selling Hellboy: Darkness Calls. This newly reborn evil has her murderous sights set on all of humanity, and the only way Hellboy can stop her is to finally confront the truth about his own dark heritage.

5 out of 5 stars Another great twist!   July 19, 2010

Hellboy is always great, and this is another great addition! "...But you also had a mother..." What an unexpected turn in his back story! Mignola continues to be great, and Duncan Fegredo has managed to step up and be as equally amazing a Hellboy artist as Mignola. Yes, I feel that strongly about how awesome he's doing, and I always insisted that Mignola was the only one who could draw Hellboy.
First, read Darkness Calls, then get The Wild Hunt.

I love Hellboy, and this is a great collection, and a wonderful addition to the Hellboy saga.

5 out of 5 stars Mythological Hero For Our Generation   May 26, 2010

Hellboy is the mythological hero for our generation. He faces all sorts of evil monsters and dark witches, but he also has fears and doubts which make him more human. Of course he isn't human. He is a giant red demon with an oversized right arm, which can pretty much smash through anything. However he also breaks off his horns in an attempt to be more human. These are the things that make Hellboy so exciting and accessible.

This latest volume of the Hellboy doesn't disappoint. In fact it really elevates the whole Hellboy mythos. You can see that the writer, Mike Mignolia, is really drawing in on who Hellboy really is or at least who all the factions want him to be. It is fun to read because you want to know if Hellboy will give in, if he will fall victim to the prophecy, or if he can make his own fate.

The art is great, simple, yet effective. The mood is set and the locations pull you in. It lets you lose yourself in the story. The colors are top notch, translating the mood for every scene.

If you haven't read a Hellboy story, then you need to get them all. If you liked the movie, you will love the books. If you didn't like the movies, you will still love the books.

5 out of 5 stars Wild   May 18, 2010

Hellboy comes out of hiding to take part in the Wild Hunt where giants are hunted and beheaded. This leads to a bigger story where his life's purpose is brought up, his heritage is revealed, and his destiny is presented to him. A new enemy, a dead blood witch, is raising an army to slaughter England and Hellboy needs to take up his mantle and raise an army to fight them.

Duncan Fegredo once again takes over the art with Mike Mignola scripting the story. Fegredo is, I'm convinced, one of the best, if not arguably the best, comics artist around at the moment. All of the scenes he draws are utterly beautiful and more than once I was stunned to see a page size illustration of awe-inspiring brilliance. A room of dead knights was so well illustrated I wished it was poster sized so I could put it up on my walls. Morgan le Fay's castle is fantastic and his various depictions of faerie land, Hell, rural Ireland, and Avalon were top quality. I love Mignola's art but Fegredo's is a fantastic substitute.

"The Wild Hunt" sets the stage for a larger story that'll take place in a future book. Meanwhile the story features giants, ghosts, witches, demons, a Duke of Hell, faeries, spirits, bird women, Morgan le Fay, and lots of references to Arthurian legend. It all adds up to an incredible story, one of Mignola's best and a fantastic read. The ending really makes you wishing you had to the next book to hand as it's ended at such a tantalising point. I can't wait for the next installment!

5 out of 5 stars Hellboy makes History. History makes Hellboy   April 26, 2010
gale1979 (Galicia, Spain)
I've just finished reading "The Wild Hunt" (9th volume in Hellboy series). In my humble opinion, Hellboy is the best continuing comic-book series being published at the moment. Period

Mike Mignola turns a page definetely over in the development of the Hellboy character and pathos when, for the first time, we get to fear Hellboy as Hellboy gets to fear himself. The treatment of European Mythology has also changed from previous Hellboy installments: not only the setting, now are the story.

As for the art part of the book, Duncan Fegredo keeps up to his best. As in the previous volume ("Hellboy, Vol. 8: Darkness Calls"), he truly achieves a Mignola-like ambience and pace and, at the same time, he gives Hellboy art its own volume and perspective.

Of course, reading "Hellboy, Vol. 8: Darkness Calls" is absolutely necessary before entering "The Wild Hunt".
